Hot Carriers in Solar Cells
6-7 May 2013
Workshop organizers: Ravindra Bhatt, Steve Lyon, and Sigurd Wagner
Solar cells lose approximately one-third of the incoming solar irradiance by thermalization of photoexcited hot carriers. The problem is that hot carriers thermalize by phonon emission on the picosecond time scale, whereas conventional carrier extraction by diffusion and drift requires orders-of-magnitude longer times. The goal of this workshop is to inspire fundamentally new concepts for capturing the energy of hot carriers in solar cells as electricity.
